Within the Department of Toxicology “Akademik Danilo Soldatović”, classes are conducted on integrated academic studies of Pharmacy and Pharmacy – Medical Biochemistry and on all types of postgraduate studies, doctoral and specialist academic studies, as well as specialist studies required by the healthcare system. The Department teaches three compulsory subjects and eleven elective subjects in both study programs of integrated academic studies. Students acquire knowledge and skills in all the areas of Toxicology relevant to the future work of health professionals, masters of pharmacy and masters of pharmacy-medical biochemists.
The department is principal to the narrower scientific field of Toxicology.
Teachers and associates of the Department are engaged as principal investigators, coordinators or participants in several national and international projects. The field of scientific research of the Department includes toxicology of metals, substances of abuse, POPs compounds, pesticides, endocrine disruptors, mixture toxicology, mechanisms of toxicity (in particular, oxidative stress), prophylaxis and therapy of poisoning, human biomonitoring, in silico methods in toxicology, and human health risk assessment.
Through expert work, teachers of the Department are involved in the work of the Ministry of Health, the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Environment Program and several other institutions and bodies from the international and public significance. Within the professional work, the teachers of the Department participate in the preparation of toxicological opinions for the needs of registration of drugs, cosmetics, plant protection products, biocidal products, chemicals, consumer products, etc.
Teachers and associates of the Department provide significant support to students in the preparation of student research papers and in mentoring final thesis, especially experimental ones. Additionally, teachers and associates are active in providing support to students and student organizations of the Faculty in the implementation of numerous extracurricular student activities, such as congresses, symposiums, workshops, lectures, international cooperation, faculty promotions, etc.
