Mara Aleksić was born on August 29, 1967. in Belgrade, where she finished elementary and secondary education. She graduated in 1992. at the Faculty of Physical Chemistry, University of Belgrade. Master degree thesis entitled: „Protonation Constants Determination and Electrochemical Behavior of Cefetamet-Na” she defended in 1998, and doctoral dissertation entitled „Electrochemical Behavior and Determination Cephalosporin Antibiotic Cefetamet in Water-Alcohol Mixtures“ in 2003., both at the Faculty of Physical Chemistry, University of Belgrade. As postdoctoral researcher, he was on two occasions in Department of Biophysical Chemistry and Molecular Oncology, Institute of Biophysics, Czech Academy of Science, Brno, Czech Republic (2008. and 2010.). International collaboration of Dr. Aleksić with prof. Petr Zuman, Clarkson University, Podsdam, USA started 15 years ago and successfully resulted with over ten publications.

Dr. Mara Aleksić is currently an associate professor at Department of Physical Chemistry and Instrumental Methods where participates in teaching Physical Chemistry, Colloid Chemistry and Instrumental Methods (for Pharmacy-Medical Biochemistry students) courses at undergraduate level, as well as Spectroscopic Methods in Drug Analysis at doctoral studies. She was mentor and member of Committee for numerous undergraduate theses as well as a mentor of student’s scientific research papers. She was co-author of three university textbooks (Selected topics of Colloid Chemistry, Practicum in Physical Chemistry and Collection of Exercises in Physical Chemistry) and Equipment Catalogue, Faculty of Pharmacy University of Belgrade in 2013.

She was a participant in five national scientific research projects. Since 2011., has been participating in the National project of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development (P172033 - Synthesis, quantitative structure-activity relationships, physico- chemical characterization and analysis of pharmacologically active substances (Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade).

Scientific research includes electrochemical investigation of selected drugs (cephalosporins, quinolones, quinoxaline derivatives), their redox mechanism at different electrodes, protonation equilibrium and adsorption characteristics studies, as well as their determination in biological samples. Recent interest is expanded to electrochemical biosensors for detection of DNA-drug interaction, determination of type, composition, binding constants and thermodynamic parameters of complexes formed. She has published 36 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and had 54 presentations at scientific meetings. Dr Aleksić was a reviewer in the numerous international journals, and papers of International Conference on Fundamental and Applied Aspects of Physical Chemistry. According to SCOPUS, author’s h-index is 10.

Activities within the Faculty include the membership in the Faculty Council and president of the Council for first year.
